Found & Made
A collection of reclaimed pieces.
The driftwood
used in these items has been found locally, some has been “fished” directly
from the river, some spotted at low tide and then scavenged.
Occasionally we see a piece down stream and haul it up by boat.
However the pieces are found, they are all saved and ultimately
restored to continue life as remade functional or decorative
objects.
The steel used on these items is reclaimed Trinity House steel.
Again scavenged or donated by fellow trinity buoy wharfers who
have enough foresight to stockpile such materials knowing eventually
that all things do indeed come in useful.
Each item is unique. Each has been worked by the hands of several
skilled crafts people. Only collaboration makes such regeneration
possible. Each piece found is a conundrum; our job is to work
out both the puzzle and the solution.
In this age of mass produced disposable furniture, art and objects,
this collection has genuine integrity. There is no waste in the
design process, no carbon miles; no exploitation of labour and
no land fill issues commonly associated with contemporary consumer
goods. This is the anti-dote to the high street!
Karen Constantine.
My thanks go to Tony Smith and Carrie Alcott for their skills and
patience.
